My idea is to create a lamp with green LED's in the center of the orb. The orb will be made out of clear plastic with two holes on the side to attach to the staff, and also for wiring. I plan to thread the wires down through the staff into the base, where, if possible, a button can be use to turn it on and off. I plan on having the button look like a rock to blend in with the rest of the land.
For the staff and rocks, I plan on 3D printing them as a shell, and then painting them.
I may or may not include the hand, because I'm not sure if I like it or not. I might just have the staff instead.
That is an awesome plan for a project. The design itself is really cool, the wiring might be a challenge but the design does leave space for it, The orb itself could be easily made with vacuum sealing.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a very interesting design that will be a fun challenge to 3D model. The idea to turn it into a lamp that can turn on and off is especially cool. Since I don't see it mentioned anywhere in your post, is this lamp from an outside source or is it your own design? Either way, I certainly (Agree With) your proposal. Can't wait to see this one completed!

Thanks! And I drew up this illustration and created the lamp idea, but the design is heavily referenced from the character design of Hades from the game, Smite.
Deletethis project looks very doable. I love the idea of putting in an led with clear plastic for the orb. I cant wait to see what it comes out to. good luck !
ReplyDeleteIf well executed, this will be a beautiful object! I like your idea of the on/off switch being a "rock" on the ground. I think the biggest challenge will be creating an assembly for this, since it will be made up of several parts/components. I would definitely take time to do some test prints as you design it.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree with what you're doing here, and it's an awesome design. Are you planning to vacuum-seal the orb, or would that be something you 3D print in, like, translucent ABS?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I want to vacuum-seal the orb or try creating a shell and 3D printing in ABS yet. I'll have to test them to see which one creates the glow effect that I'm looking for.
DeleteI am superrrrr jacked for this. The illustration is dope. Is this going to be a battery powered thing or a plugin thing?
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's going to be battery powered with a switch placed beneath one of the rocks that can be pushed to turn the lamp on and off.
DeleteI Agree With the whole idea, it looks really cool and dark. I would say be careful with details like how the ball will be attached and the hand, because those small details in it may start looking wonky if they're printed? Otherwise, looks great.
ReplyDeleteBrooke, this is amazingly intricate. I (A)gree with your proposal, but one question - do you plan on painting the "shell" for the orb? I'm just wondering how you're going to accomplish the effect you want for the final make.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 different ideas that I might want to do. If the shell is thin enough, just make the orb out of green ABS with 3D Printing, try painting clear ABS/Vacuum Sealing green, or try tinting the plastic green. Hopefully one of these would work!
Delete(a) agree with. I think that the design is something unique that can happen. The led effect with the rock will look awesome. I think that you just need to focus on the assembly, because fitting all the parts together with the wiring will be tough. Definitely something that can be done, great idea.
ReplyDelete(A)gree This looks really cool and looks like its something you will be very good at because is mixes what we are doing with art, which you seem to be really good at.

Deletei Agree with this, i totally think this would be an awesome thing to have. i can't wait to see it finished.
